Contemporary Organ Masters

As an added bonus, those who come to the program will receive a piece
of music
to take home to play and review. Since much of the music was printed
only once, Dr. Stowe's survey is part of an effort to identify some
pieces which may deserve re-publication.
7:00 P.M.
Luther Memorial Church
1021 University Avenue, Madison
UW-Madison Organ Professor,
John Chappell Stowe, will present his work on an anthology of
organ music called Les Maitres Contemporains de l'Orgue
(Contemporary Masters of the Organ) published in Paris in eight
volumes between 1911 and 1913. This is a unique international
collection of music from many countries written in various styles and of
difficulty ranging from very easy to very challenging. Much of the
music has not been re-published since 1913. Dr. Stowe will perform
musical examples both on the Austin organ and the restored 1893 J.W.
Steere organ at Luther Memorial Church.
